A letter from our founder
Hello, welcome!
Thank you very much for your interest in this small tourism company.
In this letter I wish to tell a little about my history, my motivations and the origin of Tromsø Accessible Tours.
I have worked in the area of tourism for many years: as a ski instructor, in hostels for low budget travellers and as a tour guide.
In the last four years I have been in tourism in Tromsø. What I have always loved about this job is to be able to share the happiness of people when they experience something for the first time, something that they never imagined doing and that they did not expect to be so magical.
During this four years work in the reindeer camp, I had the opportunity to work with different persons with disabilities, always making an effort to help then getting around the barriers that make it difficult for everyone to enjoy it: helping a tourist in a wheelchair to move around the snow, getting close to a mute person for them to communicate their needs, improving the lighting so a person with a hearing disability could lipread. I felt that it was enough and that I was doing a good job.
In November 2019 I was the guide for a group of many people with reduced mobility in a 5 days tour. During those days I witnessed the difficulties that these people must overcome to do adventure tourism activities. In the following months I researched what could be done to solve this problem and quickly came to know that I had just seen the tip of the iceberg.
In Tromsø we are inside the Arctic Circle, with its singular weather and surroundings. This presents, on one side, places and experience without equal y on the other, a series of difficulties to access them. Facing this reality, I decided that the best I could do with my time was to work so that people, regardless of their specific conditions, could enjoy the nature that I love so much in a safe and comfortable environment.
My wish is that EVERYONE, people with permanent or temporary disabilities, seniors, families with children and babies, can visit Tromsø and live their arctic experience.
I extend you my warmest regards, and hope we can meet each other.
Sincerely,
Martin Lobert
